Hall, Stairs and Landing - just a touch of decorating needed here :0
The previous occupiers sadly lacked not only any kind of "skill" at decorating they also seem to have lacked 20/20 vision as when they *decorated* the h s l prior to marketing their house they thought they had done a good job.
OMG - the walls could not only induce migraines they could induce vomiting. The walls were initially blue and they have "allegedly" emulsioned over with a kind of yellowy cream. This has led to a fetching (not!) greeny effect. BUT the biggest crime was how no-one has ever introduced them to the joys of masking tape. If you can't paint edges neatly (I hold my hands up to this) then buy some masking tape and tape up all those pesky edges !! THEY however did not do this and this resulted in a paint effect never before seen - half the celings were painted on with the wall emulsion in huge splodges and the other half of the ceiling meets wall combo missed the emulsion at the top by 3 inches - add into this the landing window which they just did not bother going near with a brush and you have a kind of psychotic, painted by a 2 year old effect.
Photos do not do this justice - also there was dark wood on all spindles, bannisters and windows - this was not a "natural" wood it was a nasty orangey brown stain which made the hall feel cold and dark - the stain was also liberally applied so it was on the walls.
We commenced undercoating straight after Christmas whilst we were still full of "new house" enthusiam but we fell abruptly at the first hurdle - the spindles. I am not exagerating when i say there were twenty million of those blighters to undercoat - so time taking you lost the will to live.
REMEMBER we can only paint after 7 pm at night so this adds to the time ayway - we did well in buying loads of undercoat very cheap from Woolies before it died.
The dark wood needed 2 coats of undercoat before we could commence glossing but finally we have smothered all the dark wood in undercoat and are now glossing.
13 doors to gloss but having discovered a gloss roller (how on earth did i get to 34 without ever knowing about these little lovelies????) i can gloss a door in 10 minutes + 5 minutes to brush paint the detail so those doors are no longer as scary !!
